Humanitarian and compassionate grounds applications for permanent residence

In some circumstances where a foreign national's application to immigrate to Canada is turned down, it may still be possible to obtain permanent residence on the basis of Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds. The applicant must prove that his situation is unusual, and is one of extreme hardship and it stems from circumstances beyond his control. Applications are normally made from within Canada, however they may also be filed overseas in some cases.
